Tell your Rep. to End Surprise Medical Bills:
[From Indivisible, House only] Every day, over 10,000 families in the United States receive a surprise medical bill. These bills happen when a person is charged for care from an out-of-network provider through no fault of their own. They are especially common in emergency settings; one-in-five emergency department visits and nearly 70% of air ambulance transports result in a surprise bill. Surprise bills can cost up to tens of thousands of dollars - a devastating amount for most people. Congress needs to act to protect patients, and in the process hold down health care costs for families and the health system overall. The best way to do this is through "benchmarking," which is the practice of paying providers the average amount they would ordinarily earn for providing a service in-network. Call your Representative and tell them to end surprise medical bills for health services, including air ambulances, by using benchmarking!

Tell Congress No Muslim Ban:
The NO BAN Act is going to be voted on Thursday, 3/12 . But something has come up that might derail everything we've been fighting for—harmful amendments that could weaken the entire bill, and could well sabotage this effort altogether.
We need to act—call Congress now. Condemn the expansion of Trump's Muslim ban and demand full support for the NO BAN Act immediately—as is, with no weakening amendments or poison pills.

Tuesdays with Tillis:
This week’s Tuesdays with Tillis will be focused on ending family separation. Physicians for Human Rights has declared that family separation is a form of torture, and yet it continues here in North Carolina, throughout the United States, and at our borders, because of the racist and cruel policies of the Trump Administration. Separation happens to families in many ways, including deportation, detention, the virtual disappearance of legal immigrants, the dismantling of our asylum system, and at camps on the Southern border. With ICE raids increasing in North Carolina, we're demanding an end to the Trump Administration's cruelty to migrants and undocumented people. We hope to involve many organizations so that this can be a huge and well-publicized reminder to our communities that this Administration's cruelty to migrants and undocumented people is something we will not tolerate. The event runs from 11:30 to 12:30 at Tillis’s Raleigh office on New Bern Avenue.
